Monitoring through Headphones on live 7

Hi Guys,

I've recently just found this site throught Lives forums and I have to say Im pretty excited to be amongst you controllerists, Ive been into producing in live for over 2 years now and loving it, but i've recently got a PCR300 Edirol with the cross fader and I've started to get into mixing, the problem Im having though is monitoring through headphones, any suggestions?

PC Dual Core 2.8 Amd
4gb Ram
Micro XP
AUdiophile 24/96
Tannoy Reveal 6d Monitors
Korg Elektribe

Any help would be greatley appreciated.

Hello there and welcome.

Bad news first. You need four outputs from your soundcard if you want a separate signal for monitoring. 2 for the master, 2 for the headphones. So it looks like you need another sound card.

Thanks for that, yeah I thought that would be the case, any suggestions? or do you think a wee 2 channel mixer would do the trick?

A 2 channel mixer doesn't change the fact there's only 2 outs from your sound card.

As for recommendations, there's tons of options out there. I'm told the Echo Audiofire range is good (if you have firewire). Motu are great and RME are just about the best but you probably don't need anything as fancy as that.
