First of all put the Beatlookup effect across the master channel and set a loop going in Ableton.  Then route a Midi channel to the Beatlookup Reaktor plugin.  The modifying elements should be set to the keys C2 to C3 (i think - might be C3 to C4).  You can tell which key activates which plugin by referring to the plugin when pressing keys.  One of the switches above each effect will go yellow.

From then you can Midi Learn (select the control and right click --> Midi Learn then move the control you wish to edit the effect with) to map the rest of the controls.

yo!

does anyone know if beat lookup is avail for MAC intel?

I know i can run parallels and what not..i just got so many variables already in my live set-up (suncing cpus, playing gtr, etc...) that'd i'd love to use this without another software running like parallels...

Is there a trick to get this to work?
« Reply #5 on: September 11, 2008, 10:22:30 PM »
Like many before, I am struggling with getting beatlookup to work thru ableton. I actually had it working with the keyboard, but upon further messing with it and reloading it - it just didn't work.

here is my setup
ableton 7
master channel with the reaktor fx vst
beatlookup as the reaktor vst

when using the keyboard it shows that midi notes are registering, but nothing - no effects. is there an on switch or something simple i am missing? maybe i accidentally toggled it and now can't figure out how to replicate?

thanks!!

The easiest way I've found to make it work in Live is to modify the KeyControl instrument. What I did was add buttons in reaktor set to Gate mode and use those to replace the Sel. Gates in there. This is what my KeyControl macro looks like now:

Then you just set the button's Automation ID to be inside Live's midi mappable range and you should be able to midi map them on Live. I just set their ID's from 1 to 13.

do you think you can rephrase that into steps for a noob like me

It is to the extent Reaktor is. Basically, it's written with Reaktor, and to run it, you gotta run Reaktor. There's no way around that at this point, though you may be able to find proprietary software that does similar stuff.

Would you mind making this version of the BeatLookup ensemble available for download? I can offer you hosting if you need it, but it looks like there's something very wrong in the BLU backend that's preventing some of us from getting sound.

I'll try replicating what you just did, but I'm a total Reaktor noob. Are you just creating normal Reaktor buttons, renaming them for function, and connecting them to the "midi" port of each module? Or is there something more involved?

I guarantee, there's nothing wrong with any part of BLU :) It's just that it's a complicated ensemble, in Reaktor, which is already a reasonably difficult program. BLU always needs at least a tiny bit of customisation to suit your setup. There are tons of things you can fail to do, any one of which might stop you getting sound, or being able to press buttons to make things work etc. You just have to keep checking them all til it works, and be attentive. Pretty much all the mistakes you can make are now covered on this site.

The two biggest ones we keep seeing are:

1. People don't pipe their midi into BLU by creating midi tracks to do so within Live. This means it doesn't matter what they press, the commands never reach BLU.

2. They can't find the 'Sel Gate' blocks in the ensemble that you have to change and midi map to your own midi controller, to get it to respond to you.

Both of these problems covered at more length in this other topic:

http://controllerism.net/forum/index.php/topic,68.0.html

I wasn't quite sure what Monosybalik did, something to make the midi mapping more accessible to himself, but I guarantee it's easy to just change the 'Sel Gates' as soon as you know how. The main trick can be finding them, or the ones attached to the controls you want to hack. But again, this is discussed in that other topic.

Moldover suggested it'd be easier to start with a fresh copy of BLU rather than his edit, but I have to admit I found his already modified version better suited to my purposes.

Thought I should mention that I was never able to gt moldovers BLU working and gave up for a few months. That was until I found out that in order to get moldovers working I had to update my reaktor. Anyhow long story short, I ended up using CLists version and moding that anyway.

Having said that...

Hey aeriae what exactly about his version did you find more suitable?

Sorry Remote, didn't mean to confuse you. When I said 'his version'.. I mean't Moldover's version. As in, I found it easier to hack Moldover's already hacked version of BLU to my purposes, than to start fresh with Chris List's and hack that.
